![]() ![]() It's a thin plot told via a small handful of prerendered cutscenes, but what it does is lay the premise for an entertaining overall presentation. ![]() In their effort to continually haunt poor platforming mascot Rayman, the rabbids have hijacked a TV station and are now broadcasting their own twisted programming directly to Rayman's home. In TV Party, the titular raving rabbids are just as insane as ever, but this time around they've extended their reign of terror to the television airwaves. TV Party's newfound focus on mocking cable TV adds a fresh new set of laughs to the presentation. TV Party simply relies too heavily on its sense of humor to mask the fact that the extremely basic motion controls that make up the bulk of the gameplay have collected a thick layer of dust. Although TV Party manages to expand on the series' trademark wacky sense of humor with a newfound focus on television pop culture, the gameplay has remained mired in the realm of diminishing returns by failing to improve in any notable way. ![]() Now Ubisoft has released the series' third game, Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, at a time when the genre has grown bloated and stagnant. The original Rayman Raving Rabbids was released at the forefront of this trend, successfully stringing together a collection of absurd challenges that relied on simple motion controls and an offbeat sense of humor to create a fresh and oddly compelling overall package. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is scheduled to release October 20 for Nintendo Switch. In two short years, the Wii minigame genre has gone from relatively novel concept to full-blown phenomenon. Despite this, Rayman's addition is a pleasing surprise and can please the fans who are wishing for Ubisoft to do more with the character. While some are appreciative that Rayman will be making an appearance in the DLC of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, others think that Rayman is still due for a proper comeback with a full game as opposed to an expansion to an existing game with the Rabbids. The final appearance that Rayman had shared with the Rabbids was 2008's Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party on the Wii, so Rayman appearing in a DLC with the Rabbids will please those who wish to see them reunite. After that, Ubisoft's former mascot has been held to an occasional cameo role, with the Rabbids taking the spotlight from him. The last franchise entry in the Rayman series was Rayman Legends, which was originally released in 2013 and had a definitive edition on the Nintendo Switch in 2017. Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach then move next to him, where it reveals that Rayman will star in his own DLC adventure with the Rabbids. While the Rabbids are squabbling among themselves, Rayman's hair pops halfway through, where the camera continues moving right until it stops immediately to focus on Rayman again. Occasionally Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach can be seen amongst the crowd. This new trailer for Rayman's appearance in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope starts by showing off the ears of the Rabbids in a lineup. There was some precedent for this DLC, too, as Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle featured a DLC involving Nintendo's primate protagonist Donkey Kong. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope's season pass and Gold Editions were confirmed earlier this year, which will contain more content after the game's October launch. Much like the original crossover in 2017, this game sees Mario and his friends team up with the chaotic Rabbids in a turn-based strategy title developed by Ubisoft Paris and Ubisoft Milan in collaboration with Nintendo. This announcement was made during the latter company's own Ubisoft Forward 2022 event, which revealed a number of updates for the company's projects and this upcoming sequel. Nintendo and Ubisoft have announced that Rayman-themed DLC will be coming to Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope after the game's launch. ![]()
